Help?

Hey chickies, just wondering..

Yoda steps up without command now but still will not stay. I just spent a couple of minutes trying to get him to stay with treats but I didnt want to stress him out too much more. I also took him to another room with less distractions. But as soon as he steps up hes looking for somewhere to escape even though hes clipped. How can I get him to stay on my hand? What else can I do? Is there any other way? Suggestions?

Magellan goes straight to my shoulder, won't stay on my hand (but stays on the shoulder pretty well)

While he is perched on your finger hold he's feet down with your thumb. He may feel more secure on your finger if you have ahold of his feet. He will also relize he can't fly away while his feet are held.

Thanx! I'll try holding his feet! I really cant remember how we trained Jibby, it was 6 years ago. I got a bad memory! Yoda just seems to have this confidence and attitude about him where as I remember Jibs was always the shy happy go lucky attitude as a baby. Very different.

Gawd ! I wish I could get Jordan to piss off like that. Actually all of mine. As soon as we sit down, or start eating, or have something that sounds like a plastic bag or food, they are straight over and up.

Maybe have some interesting objects with you that he wants to play with. Alot of the time they get jealous of the other birds too, so having another bird on me is always never a single bird, they all want to come and join, like they think they are going to miss out on something.

On a serious note .. being consistent might help , I know that if you keep doing something over and over, eventually they give in. Keep making him step up, if he takes off, go get him, make him step up again and again until he gets so tired of taking off, coz you are just going to go get him again, he should give in.

Also make it a little more interesting to be on you. Or less interesting to be off you (however you might do that :shock:

??)

I really don't have that issue, mine is the opposite; Jordan and pickle adore to be on us and ride around on our shoulders, they would do it all day long if they could. And Jordan is fully flighted, so its damn hard to get rid of him, he just fly's on back (we now have play times and times for being lshut up in the birdroom).

I had a problem when Dats was a baby, he would always insist of sitting on my shoulder and was very flighty, I persisted in taking him off my shoulder (which in turn meant picking hiom up from the floor) and placing him back on my finger. It took what seems like ages but now he only goes to my shoulder when I put him there and he happily sits on my finger or forearm when i pick him up.

Persistance hun, and consistency with everyone will help.. but as always with these birds, be firm and have patience.. Good Luck!! :wink:
