Wing Clipping
My birds wings are clipped, but the question is do you clip the same wing or alternate, giving the chance for the feathers to grow
also.... i clipped my birds wings about 2 months ago and he hasnt grown anymore feathers at all... wats the deal.
he also seems to hurt himself when he tries to fly and he lands on his bum/tail feathers and was actually bleeding from the backside, i was quiet worried, will he heal up ok
I think i clipped his feathers to far back cause he can't get anywhere..
thanks

The feathers will grow back after the next moult.
It sounds like he may have broken a blood feather (not too serious if the bleeding has stopped) landing the way he did , I'd take him to the vet just to be sure it was a blood feather and not something more serious bleeding.
A correct wing clip would involve cutting the first 8-10 primaries upwards towards the birds head. cut the primaries up to the secondaries to make the wings look neat. The bird should be able to glide after a clip but should not be able to have any lift. It does sound like you clipped too much if your bird lands on his tail feathers.
ok,
thanks for clearing that up, yea i think i did cut the feathers back to far.
I tell you what though, I seriously HATE cuttings his wings.
As much as he dosent like to bite me, he knows whats happening and bites HARD.
but I have to admit, Ive grown alot closer to him now that he relies on me all the time, which is great.
cheers

Sounds like they were clipped too far. I had this problem with a tiel few years ago. Our tiel did some serious damage to itself. Cracked its breast bone trying to land. Had a gaping wound on its belly. So it started plucking. All because the wings were clipped incorrectly. Id take your birdy to an avian vet have it all sorted out. Just incase.
Jibby would amputate my fingers if I tried clipping him. If i touch anywhere below his beak he looks at me like 'now what do you think your doin!' Yodas been a lil darlin, puts up a fight if I try to grab him but once I have him he plays dead. Easy to clip.
