Peeling beak?

Post by Evangel »

Tuki's beek seems to be peeling. Are their beaks supposed to do this? I'm getting a little worried. I've tried giving him a cuttlefish to grind his beak on but he just destroys it, I've also tried him with a calcium bell but he hates that too (he's so difficult to please haha). What do you guys think? Do I need to get him to a vet?

How old is your IRN? My Yodas beak is 'peeling/flaking' aswell. He is 4 months old. I think his beak is just growing. Because its gotten a bit bigger and rounder in the last few days.

Dont worry, My Gilbert is 'difficult' to please aswell.

He's about 4 months as well. I'm glad to hear it's not just Tuki's beak that's flaking. I went on vation and came home to him with a flakey beak so I paniced

Haha Tuki seems to enjoy destroying everying may it be his toys, treats or anything he can get to. He's recently started to bite our puppy too. I think there's some sibling rivalry there :)

I'd posted this before really reading PsitticulaChick's post. That Avian vet site is really great - I wonder whether we have anything similar in Australia - anyone know?

I also wonder how we get hold of the "Daily Essentials3 and CalciBoost"
over here?

Looks like Gilberts. My avian vet didnt say anythings wrong with his so Im guessing Jades beak is ok.

This site has some good products for your fids and is Australian. Also has a list of petshops around Aus that stocks them.
Im sorry I cant help with the Daily Essentials3 and CalciBoost. Maybe look around the pet/birdshops, they usually stock some suppliments.

Does your avian vet sell suppliments?

Our vet is just an ordinary vet - none of them in our area know anything about birds! I have no idea what I will ever do if there is anything badly wrong with any of the birds.

I had a look at Vetfarm - was actually looking for pellets, but didn't see anything that resembled the Daily essentials 3 and Calci boost. I did get a calcium block from the pet shop, but the little devils won't touch it - typical!

Sorry wasnt much help I cant seem to find alot of the products people mention. Can you order Daily essentials 3 and Calci boost online?

I picked up a calcium perch for Gilbert but he wont touch it either! Very typical! :x Maybe because its red? I have no idea.

Lets hope your fids never do need emergency care. Read up on whatever you can about first aid for birds.
