harnesses

Post by Peanut »

When we were at petsmart today, we bought a bird harness for our IRN. We tried it on him, and he wants absolutley NOTHING to do with it. Is there anything I can do to get him in there? I mean, I don't want him flying away or anything. Whats the best kind of harness for these kind of birds? One part of the harness we got him goes around his neck, and the other part goes around his body-and under his wings. It hooks on to a small leash thats very light weight. Any suggestions??? Help

You can try a flight suit there much easier to put on and it also prevents them from pooping on you.

If it's the Feather Tether harness, return it. It's a piece of crap. Google the Aviator Haress and buy that one. Easy to get on, comfortable, no metal hooks or clasps.

Hel, I'll give you the link. http://theparrotuniversity.com/harness/harness.html

Comes with a 45 minute dvd that shows you how to get your bird used to is and how to put it on properly. Mine are priceless!!

I hang mine on the play gym and Nila tries to shred it. Of couse he's never actually worn it. Actually it's a flight suit, I tried the tether feather first. Took it back and dumb enough to spring for the flight suit next.

He does love to chew on it though. And my fingers, if I try to put it on him.
Let me tell you. These birds have two very little feet and one not so little beak but you try to put one of those things on and you've got a cotton pickin octopus with 66 legs and eyeballs all around it's head to see which direction you're coming from next.

Hope you figure it out, but if the loop can tighten around it's neck like the one I tried, feather tether, take it back and get your money back, Nila about hung himself with it by grabbing the one end with his foot and pulling at it while I was trying to put it on. It tightened around his neck and I was in a panic until I got it off. I would never even try that one again, it could hang them if they got it caught or got a foot up into the loop when it was on.

Missi is right about the Aviator...heard that's the only one that has really ever 'worked' on most birds who have tried it on

yeah, I brought that piece of poop harness thing back. It was quite the struggle to get him in it, much less trying to get him out. I think we're going to get one of those flight suit/bird diaper things here soon instead.
