how do i tell a bird off?

Hey guys, now.. First of all, i have a great relationship with my RN, and i never yell at her or anything. BUT, surely there has to be a way for me to get a msg across that something is a no no?

Whenever she knows she's doing something wrong, she does it real slow, and keeps looking over at me... and ill say "nooooo!" in a low voice, and she will back away, then 2 seconds later do the exact same thing.

I presume she is just playing with me. But how do i get a msg across?

By completely and utterly ignoring her to the point where you turn your back and walk away. Ringnecks love attention and by saying noooo you're giving them the attention they crave so they figure that doing that thing will get you to pay them attention. Ignore it and they should try something more favourable to get your attention once they realise what they're doing doesn't work.

Of course, they could be doing it just for their own enjoyment, eg chewing the curtains.

exactly yer, i take that approach when she is doing stuff i dont really care about, but when she is chewing the fly-wire for example! If i ignore it, she will destroy the whole thing! lol

Any ideas on dealing with stuff like that?

Probably just make her step up from there. My sunni is clinging to the curtains at the moment which she's not allowed to do so we make her do step ups. I ruffle her feathers a bit too a bit like a dog.

Its the equilavant of your spouse looking at you hateful, turning the back to you and ignoring you. You hate that? You want to make that better, dont you?

Ringnecks are also that smart. Works everytime. We are their mate in a sense. They dont always want to be good for us but they NEVER want us to turn our backs on them.

When I walk away from Baby, I look back a few times and say something like pretty boy... anything... just so I dont turn and walk away giving him the impression he has done wrong.

They are like babies. You can't just say no. Try taking her away and then giving her something else to do. Also, birds usually do not like being on the floor. I have had success with Fiona putting her on the floor and ignoring her (turning my back to her).

Thanx, it worked well with fiona. she would bite me HARD and I would immediatly put her on the floor........She would waddle over to me and want to step-up(consequently, I would have to walk away sometimes b/c she would step up on my feet which are VERY ticklish and i don't want to kick her!) . We would practice stepping up from the top of the cage over and over until she would do it w/o biting (she's terretorial of her cage). She's sneaky though, sometimes she'd bite me and quickly step-up, like I wouldn't notice. We are both REALLY stubborn :oops:

haha sounds firmiliar. The only problem is, Charlie isnt clipped anymore, so as soon as i put her on the ground, she flies straight back to me haha. Even though its not very productive, its very funny and cute. She seams to enjoy flying around a lot, as she does laps of the house then when she is finished she squawks at me as to say "did you see that?!?! I did it 3 times that go!!"
