Social?

Hi all,

I have 2 lovely little birds, a cockatiel and a budgie. They live happily together in a big cage on my verandah. Im thinking about adopting a homeless tame IRN. I need to know can these birds all live together or am i likely to have a very unhappy family? I have a second cage but it is too small for an IRN or for my 2 little birds, but my big cage is massive and would fit the three of them easily. My cockatiel and budgie are very fond of each other although they have the occasional spat, mostly over toys or personal space but no one is ever bitten, it is all show. Are IRNs placid birds? most of the information i have read points to this, but i dont want to commit to this adoption without knowing if it will work.

No. Do not house an IRN with any other birds. Not even if he seems tame.

Most likely your other birds will end up dead if you house them together. Epsecially the budgie. Budgies drive IRNs mad. My budgie will jump on my IRN's back if he gets the chance, but he's far too quick for the IRN out of the cage.

Separate cages are the go. You can get a reasonable cage for $100 off ebay for an IRN.

If THAT doesnt make people realize WE CANT KEEP HOUSING BIRDS SO CLOSE WITH NO RETREAT, nothing ever will. Not even in a bird room with open cages. Its awful. Human error. Sad, sad, case.

Pity you are on the other side of the world...I have about 20 cages in the garage as everyone keeps trading up (yes, the garage and the house look a lot alike, except the ones inside are occupied!)
