Pooing alot?

Post by luccas »

Hey all,
My one year old Alex seems to be "disposing a lot of waste". (Pooing alot in other words) I feed him a very broad diet. with fruits, veggies, and a basic matienance pellet.
His droppings are very consistent, its getting to the point where i cant take him out of his cage as much cause he is "going" so consistently and the tiles and carpet and cleaning is just all too much. Is there anything i can do to make him go less? Any information will be much appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

First of all...don't not take your parrot out because he's pooing! That's mean  He's a living creature! They poo a ton! Jasmine poos about every hour. You don't want your bird to suffer and be punished (you not taking him out as much) because he's doing something natural, do you? Parrots are messy, MESSY pets. It comes with the territory.

Here's what you do. When you have your Alex out, every half hour, put him on a perch or back in his cage. He should poo. When he does say, "poo!" Then praise him. Eventually he will catch on and hold it until you put him on his perch or on his cage as long as you do that every half hour. Remove him from the perch or cage after the poo and continue what you were doing.

If this is all too much for you then ship him to me because I would die for a male Alex

I have had many birds pass through and I can honestly say... a ringneck DOES poo more often than most other birds.

try a flight suit--they have a diaper in them to catch the poo
