My bird is ill!

Post by Maize »

I have recently bought a female lutino IRN. She has been an awesome family companion!
I came home today to find that she is unable to move her right leg. She doesn't seem to be in pain, and she is still eating, but the vet is not able to take her until tomorrow morning.
Any idea what could be wrong with her :?: Is it fixable?

Maybe she just sprained it or something. I'm very sure it will be fixable as even if it's broken, it can be fixed. Try not to worry and just take her in to the vet tomorrow. She can perch on one leg, but if she's having touble you could put some food and water on the bottom of the cage and something comfortable for her to sit on down there. If she's really having problems maybe you should take her perches out so she can't get up high. Let us know how things go and good luck

They do with broke legs hehe. JOKING!

My baby never sits either but suppose she would have no choice if she hurt her legs. For the first time ever, my IRN is sitting at the bottom of her cage this morning... NOT A GOOD SIGN.

Zoe: My babies eye? Yes, it is better. I wiped it very well with a warm wet cloth and much food came out. Poor birdie. DCF will probably take my baby haha

Maize is all better

Hello everyone,

Looks like Maize actually did break her leg. The vet said it probably occured from a rope perch in her cage, that she got her talon caught in.
Needless to say, the rope perch is gone.
Maize had a splint on for a month with a Elizabeth collar. She hated not being able to preen, but her recovery is almost 100%.
We are so thankful that the vet could save her leg!

Hane's rope perch is new, but once it begins to fray it's outta there and will be replaced. He hasn't had any problems with any of his rope toys.

What an experience. I'm glad Maize came out of it alright. ^_^
