Almost, almost, almost!!!!!!!!!

Post by Kokkewiet »

Hi everyone,

I almost lost my Kokkewiet yesterday. Kokkewiet and I was standing outside and he flew from my finger to the ground and then he was walking alongside me. My maltese puppy came and she wanted to play with me and Kokkewiet. Then, all of a sudden, my puppy got the urge to bite Kokkewiet, head first. I got such a fright, I shouted at my puppy and she ran away.

Last night I realised how much I really love my Kokkewiet. The first thing I wanted to do when seeing my puppy almost biting my Kokkewiet was to cry. After that incident I just kissed Kokkewiet. Later on he got angry and then he wanted to bite me on my lips, but I didn't mind.

I feel very bad for screaming at my puppy. I think maybe it is my fault for taking Kokkewiet outside. But he loves the outdoors!!!!

I never shout at my babies and last night was the first time since I got my puppy that I shouted at her. I REALLY FEEL BAD.........

Was I at fault?

Awwww hunny, come 'er (big hugs)

We already realized how much you loved your baby. You talk about him so proudly and have learned so much. Dont sweat yesterday, things like that happen.

Look, if it makes you feel any better... my husband had to slam the door from outside as I was screaming My Baby! Close the DOOR! Because, last week, he was fully-flighted after a huge molt. He was on his stand and saw outside. Also, he has taken to my man since his molt BIG TIME so he was following him. He slammed into the door and could have been hurt or even killed. We acted on impulse, reaction. Thank God everything turned out ok.

He was clipped that day, wings and toes. I dont need a message in a bottle to take a hint.

You know Im a good mom, as are you. Chalk it up to experinece.

Remember what spooked him to make him flee? Important to remember. Car? Bird? The Doggie?

Aw you weren't at fault! Something spooked him and he did what was natural, he flew.

I can never take Prinny out doors without her being in a carrier (or heaven forbid her flight suit...which she HATES) because even with her severe clipping she can still get airborn.

Aha but you now know not to trust the dog with the bird. Even if the dog is just playing he could seriously hurt the little bird. Screaming saved the bird from the dog so it's good you did scream. If you save the screams for the times you really need their attention it will work. If you scream all the time they will, like children, learn to ignore you.

You're a great parront. Be proud. And give the little dog a hug and the birdie too. And I think outside is good for both of them you just have to be prepared to rescue then if necessary.

Yes, from terrible experience....DO NOT trust a bird with a dog, even if the dog is the sweetest thing.

Animals react off of instincts, not thought process.

PLEASE realize this. Too many babies have died here because people forget their precious doggie is, well... A DOG. Or cat, same applies.
