IRN won't let me pet her.
I was wondering if there is a trick to getting my IRN to let me pet her. I try to pet her on the back, but when she see's my hand she pin's her eyes and starts squacking. I want to pet her so much. Any tricks that any one has please let me know.

I've listed on my site, how to "Acquaint your bird with Touch" and how to "Socialize Your New Pet". You might like to check it out.

My IRN hates being touched but have found that if I start with touching her tail feathers first, she'll allow it. Have no idea why. She will turn around and open her mouth to let me know she isnt happy but I tell her how pretty she is and when she turns her butt back to me, I do it as long as she'll let me.
Maybe IRN's like touch somewhat if we can just figure out WHERE they will tolerate it. Mine happens to be OK with having her tail feathers rubbed

Individual, great description. I am so happy there is a board like this where we can conduct our own studies of what works for us and for Irn's. Through all of this comes education that will help us raise an incredibly happy and healthy bird. I am counting on this 30 yr. committment. Marriages dont last half that these days so I always make sure I take better care of my bird than my man ha!

Tiki lets me pet him when he wants to be petted. Like last night I was laying on the floor watching TV and he climbed out of his cage and sat on my lap for about 2 hours - I didn't have the heart to move until he was ready to move! I started giving him scritches on the back of his neck and he just bent his head all the way forward and let me rub away. I could feel little pin feather and I have seen little feathers floating (well flying through my living room - I have the fans on high since it is hot and it really picks those loose feathers up and sometimes we think there are bugs in the house!) plus Tiki is starting to look a little ragged, so I guess he is starting his first molt. Anyway at times he just loves to sit on my lap and other times, it is "Leave me alone I don't want to play or get scritches today!"
