Is there a way to train these fun filled little bundles of joy to stay on their cage or play stand?
I have a cage that opens on the top and has a perch that goes across the top. I have toys up there, but he constantly flies down to the ground. His wings are clipped so its not a graceful landing.
Usually when he flies down I make him go into his cage for a while. I know he is not doing it so I put him in his cage. He wants out all the time. He wants to be with me.
Any suggestions on training him to stay on his cage/play stand?

Lucky you your bird wants to be with you all the time. You should try to get a play stand that you can take with you so he can be with you wile you work and what not. Never in the kitchen! As far as keeping him on top of the cage it may not be big enough for him, George likes to run around he even chases those little balls that have bells in around the floor. If you go to the video section here you can see different peoples birds playing, you can see how much room they have. These birds need lots of room. Irn’s tend to take over there surroundings so get used to being owned by your bird.

Good question as this is becoming a problem with Baby as he gets older, more agile and curious. I just keep returning him until he gives up.
Its getting better but for a few weeks my life was about consistantly returning him to the stand. Id place, he flutter down... battle of the wills.
As always, he gave. I'd die first, which is half my problem.
Maybe thats what Baby and I are about... I'LL SHOW YOU! That constant challenge -shrug-
I'd also like to add this was never a problem until I let his wings get too long one time. He realized he had flight. After that is when it got real bad. Even after clipping.

I don't think that is a bad parront. I would let him stay down and play, but I have 3 dogs and a cat. The cat could care less about him. Has no interest what so ever. But... the teacup poodle on the other hand wants to go running up to Paco when he gets on the floor. I try to leave him there and talk to the dog and she is getting better. I think its more of a curiosity than a "I want to eat you". With time she is getting better. I have been making all kinds of toys now with large plastic beads, and hamster chew sticks. I figured if I gave him more to play with up on his cage he might be more apt to stay up there and not want to be with me as much... Not likely, but I am going to try it.
Here are some pictures of some of the toys I've made. It so much fun making them too.
Here is a ringneck toy:

Here is another ringneck toy:

Here is one I made for a parakeet, because the beeds are smaller:

Its because you have no real fids Dani. No telling what I might find on my floor. Ya'll are going to die... I did, but I snatched an advil out of Baby's mouth the other day.
*looks away ashamed*
I have back problems and I reckon I had dropped one and didnt realize it. Thank God I never take my eyes off of him, we would both be dead by now. Baby would kill himself if let free to roam... within an hr.
He is so into everything that he doesnt have that little duck wattle, the fool runs everywhere he goes... like a two yr old that never growns up.
