Hi all, New owner of 2 IRN's
Good Morning, I have been reading quite alot on this form and has lots of good info...However, I would LOVE more info on IRN behaviour...I have 8 birds in my flock, 2 cockatiels (m&f), 2 budgies (m&f), 2 lovies (m&m) and Now 2 IRN's (m&f)......I have a close friend that is a breeder of the smaller birds, however, last summer a couple found a female green ringneck in their yard and brought her to the breeder...Make long story short, the breeder did not have time time to handle her and I convinced her to give the bird to me! Baby is a semi-tame girl,,, with no tail (buts its growing in now). We think she is about 3 years old. She will take food (fruits/veggies/peanuts/sunflower seeds) from your hand very gentle...However, you will get the beak of death if you ask Baby to step up or try to touch her...OR if you do not distract her while trying to remove the food and water. My question is: when you talk to her she will bow her head like cockatiels do when they want scritches, but if you try she will swing up and bite...is this a defensive position (the head bowed)? What does the zipper/growl sound mean? ..........The other IRN is a yellow male just getting his ring in. His name is Luna and he is the sweetest, tameset little boy...Steps up, eat from hand, gives kisses, sayes Hello and Peekaboo...He is also from my breeder. She received a call from awoman that was moving and had to down size her flock of 25 varios birds...My breder brought Luna over right away to my house...NOW both have a forever home! Yep, 8 in a flock IS alot!! 4 out of the flock (lovies and budgies) belong to my son 12yrs old. I own one of the cockatiels and hubby the other one...Now huuby has adopted Luna and I get the girl Baby...ALL are tame except Baby...Is there hope that someday she will step up and become tame? I hope so! If not, she still has a foever home here.

Sounds like a fun time in your house. I would love to wake up in the morning there and listen to the cresendo build as they all wake up and start talking. I'm no expert but I think that if you put the male and female together you'll have less chance of taming the baby girl. Hope it all goes well and you can handle her soon. About petting, I think I read that they don't like their feathers ruffled, but to pet in the direction of growth only. I know my Nila, (female I think) who is still a baby and very tame does not like me ruffling her feathers, only allows pets down her back in the direction of feather growth.
Welcome to the group and welcome to the whole flock.

did someone try to find the person who lost this bird?

Lost Green Ringneck
Yes, she tried to find the owner and I think she posted with parrot 911....It has been over a year now or close too it....I am happy to report that Baby has started to climb down from the outside of her cage and walked across the back of the couch..She then pulled my hair ever so lightly to let me know she was there right behind my head (I saw her come down, but let her sneak over on her own)...She was taking sunflowers from my hand, but still will no step up...Right now I have to bait her with a treat to get her back to her cage...She is kinda grumpy at times, but is molting right now. So I understand her lack of friendlness....She still does not like Luna at all and when out of her cage I have their cages moved far apart....She has a great home here and she is very loved...However, I will search some web sites myself as far back as I can go. Thanks, Cindy
