I NEED SOME HELP.........

Post by Kokkewiet »

Hi everyone,

Yesterday I got a small, cute little maltese puppy from my husband. He knows I am a addict to animals.

My question is; can I allow my IRN and my puppy to be together in the same room? I am scared that my puppy will bite my IRN.
 Also, I know I am suppose to give my puppy a lot of attention for the first few weeks. My concern is my IRN. Won't he get jealous and won't he reject me and get wild and not love me anymore because I have another "baby"??

Please help......

Thanks,

Kokkewiet

A new puppy! How very exciting. I would introduce them to each other. But NEVER leave them together unsupervised. I have three dogs and three birds and three cats. All of which co-exist peacefully, most of the time. My dogs could care less about the birds, except my cocker-he hates Byndi. So I have to watch him when he's around her. I would think if you introduce them to each other all the while telling the puppy and bird to be nice and if either lunge or anything correct them. Tell them no and it was bad and put one up. I don't think your bird will get wild unless you pay it no attention at all. You should at least interact with it a bit. If you don't then the dog will be jealous when you do interact with the bird. That's my problem with my cocker. We didn't have the birds when we got him and he's very jealous! So he hates when I have Byndi. Remmi doesn't bother him or Milo. He just has it out for Byndi. Now don't take my word as gospel. I could be wrong with my suggestions. But that's what I would do. Hope all works out. Please keep us posted and let us know how it's going!
Hugs,
Jen

i would be more worried about irn biting the pup than the pup bite the bird. When i introduced indie to echo i had indie in 1 hand and echo in the other, they both got curious about eachother so i let them go to each other with supervision it should be ok.

Hi all,

Thanks for the advice.

Last night I left the cage door open for my IRN to come out. My puppy was lying on the carpet. My IRN climb down and he walked up to my puppy. And my puppy, playfully, came to my IRN. My puppy tried to play with my IRN but my IRN wasn't really interested, he just wandered around. And then when my puppy saw he wasn't getting attention from my IRN he tried to play with my IRN's tail. I think my IRN got scared and then he went back to his cage, but he only stood on top.

This part I like: I poured some milk in a bowl for my puppy, and while he was drinking the milk, my IRN climb down the cage and he bit my puppy's tail, as if he was taking revenge.

My puppy likes standing at the cage, watching my IRN. Very cute :D

I will keep you guys updated and I will post some pics or something. I took a video last night of them playing but it is on my cellphone. Don't know how to get it on computer.

Yeah I wouldn't let them play together without your supervision...dogs and cats have a virus that can kill a bird with one simple scratch. Ever vigilant and safety!
