Wow thats really interesting..... I wonder when they were introduced over there??
Ive never heard of wild ones here in SA.. funny as to why they havent spread from WA to here???

The laws in WA pretty much suck.
They aren't allowed to own Quakers, African Grey's, or Green Cheek Conures. There is probably more to that list but i am not too sure.
Apparently, these birds are viewed as pests and could wreak havoc on native wildlife if they were to escape.
However, if you ask me, if they want to have those sorts of rules, then Lovebirds, Ringnecks, and heaps of other birds should be banned from WA as well. Just doesn't make sense to ban several nice exotics.

I only found out about it when i was searching for an IRN site (before I found this one). It was an article published by the Western Australia something or other council thing and i read it and it said they were banned. A lot of the wild birds were trapped and shipped off to holding cages, but now they are considered a banned species. I'll have a look a bit later on today to see if that article is still on the net and i'll let you know the site.

Okey dokey, found that site. Go to www.agric.wa.gov.au, its bulletin no. 4658. Or you can go to the left and choose 'pests weeds and diseases' and get an entire list of all categories for each specific animal and what restrictions are placed on each.
Ringnecks are classified A2 - Subject to eradication in the wild, A4 - entry subject to department of agriculture permits and/or conditions and A6 - keeping subject to dept of agriculture permits and/or conditions.
Thank God it doesn't have an A1 - thats entry prohibited or A3 which is keeping prohibited!!!
Surprisingly, most of your conures and macaws (hahns and red fronted) African Greys and senegals are A1 and A3 and 'must be reported'.
I don't know why, and they don't really say why but there you go....
