New African ringneck

Hello am new for the African ringneck
My fiancé she got it for me and its look young I can tell by the eyes color is sold black
But he is very scared and I can't even be close to him he fly all over the cage
Is there any hope to make him not wild and make him step on my finger and feed him from hand ?
I read that it should get used to the family members for month then bring ur hand in the cage closer and closer every day and he will learn ?
Plz any help would be appreciate it
