Hello All!!!! Im so happy to have found you!!!!

Im looking to add a ringneck to my family and have lots of questions!!

I found a bird lady who breeds them, but she informed me you cant tame them agfter 4 weeks old. that i need to find a baby or a hand reared one.

I want him or her to become part of the family, following us around etc and only in the cage when we arnt home.

I have tamed 2 wild galahs with no worries and i thought these guys would be the same???

Could you please help me!!

Should i get a baby? or a hand reared?? ITs just i work full time and wouldnt have much time to spend with a real little baby, as much as i fweel they might need.

Any help you can give me would be great!!

If you have the chance get a baby and make sure it is hand reared.

I got a tame IRN, he wasn´t tame when i bougth him at the age of 2½ years old, I have had him since august 2005 and now is he follow me around but also go and play by himself. He isn´t hand reared..

indie was older when we got him and now he is very tame but i would recomend getting a young hand raised when i say young it doesnt have to be a baby.when i pick my birds i sort of let them pick me first indie came up in his cage to see us where the others ran away.i am not sure whether jeremy still has hand reared irns for sale. anyways welcome to the board.

Hey another Adelaide person, Neoekeriena and I are Adelaide girls. If you have had experience with galahs then the ringneck shouldn't be too bad. Bhanu was a bronco and has done really well over the past 2 months. She purrs when I scratch her head. Coco is a work in progress and Azzy has emotional issues. Welcome.

Welcome to the family, cant wait to see you with a fid.

I have Kai , he was brought home at 11 months old. It took a while to tame him, but with hard work and patience he is all over us now, we can step him up, get kisses, have him climb all over us, but we still cannot pet him (working on that), and he is not good when strangers come into the house. (great watch dog though .. lol) we have had him 8 months.

Jordan was still on one feed, but pretty much weaned when we brought him home and he is a different ball game all together. We handled him from approx 8 weeks old every day and the whole family is all over him all the time (kai is pretty much my bird, and my husbands buddy). Jordan is so much more affectionate , you can grab him, cuddle him, kiss him all over not just on the beak like kai, you can play rough and tumble with him and he like everyone ! .. he is now 9 months old.

Either way , you will have to spend quite a bit of time with your new fid to keep it friendly, IRN's tend to start to go a little wild after periods of non interaction. (if you put them out to aviary etc.)

If you can get a handraised baby I would go for it. An older bird will take up alot of your time to tame, but it can be done with pateince and time.
