budgies nesting again

hi, my budgies still have 2 baby chicks in the nestbox and now the hen is laying a secon clutch and the chciks have got poo all over the eggs. the chciks are just about to leave the nest in about 4 or 5 more days. should i foster the eggs out to another pair or will the eggs be fine?

A friend of mine has the same situation she is leaving them alone. The babies are helping to incubate the eggs.

Hey Jayesh & Every Birdie,
usually speaking there is not much of a serious need to wipe the poop off the eggs unless the latter are near or fully covering the eggs' shells. If you should ever worry that it would be necessary to clean the poop off the eggs. Prepare yourself a bowl of warm water (abt. 40°C) and when ready put the eggs in there and rolls them around in the warm water for a cple of seconds. Take them out and gently wipe the poop off with a soaked soft srubbing synthetic pad or soaked piece of cheese-cloth using the warm water for soaking the scrubbing material. Of course, one needs to this as fast as possible and return the eggs inside the nest-box so they don't shill for a too long period of time.

I've raised Budgies myself for more than 15 years and what I do when 2nd clutches are laid when a few chicks from the 1st clutch haven't fledged yet ; is to take the chicks out of the nest-box. Of course the chicks must be at least 4 weeks of age for them to be taken out.

I place them on the bottom of the cage inside either a foodgrade cardboard (i.e. cereal &/or facial-tissue box) with roof open and filled with either hay or aspen &/or pine shavings. Or even directly on a layer of hay or shavings whenever the chicks are of fledging age (between 5-6 weeks old)

The father will take care of the chicks and start the wheaning process right away and this will enable to hen to peacefully start incubating the eggs without becoming aggressive towards the chicks. Hen Budgies will often become very aggressive towards their own chicks whenever starting new clutches of eggs and taking the near wheaning chicks out of the nest-box will usually prevent this from occuring in most circomstances.

Wow...baby bugies those must be so tiny and so cute! I only really raised tiels and they were small enough Couldn't imagine trying to hand feed a 1 or 2 day old...was scary enough trying that with the bumble bee size tiel...

hi my budgies are finally starting to breed, i have one pair on 3 chicks another on 2 chicks and 3 eggs and another pair on three chicks and 4 eggs. so i am soo so happy. this is my first time breeding :D :D
