getting mad at this bird here

ducky has been a very bad bird here latley it started about 2 week ago he ran up my lap and i'd say it was like a woodpecker he leaned his head back and bammed me with his beak, of course it freaked me out he got me just under the eye,did it again the week later and left a welt on my face,so I haven't been letting him on my shoulder as much because I can tell when he's going to do it he leans way back and goes in for the hit,yest,I grabbed his little facce and just held it telling him no no and a soon a I let go he got me. he got locked in his cage for and hour and duckys not a cage bird hes got his freedom here so it made him mad.

what the heck is going on with this bird i have no clue, it makes me sad,he get no shoulder time right now ,not sure what else to do,he never bites anyone. and this is annoying.......

Not biting, just beak bonking?

Beak bonking is a very affectionate thing. It really is. It might not feel good to get it between the eyes, but you can teach him to bonk in safer places.

Buddy loves to do it giving me kisses, turning them into woodpecker kisses LOL.

If he woould do it nicely it would be ok but He pin his eyes and does it hard, I have gotten the bonk beak kisses but the way he is doing this he use the tip of the beak and does it really fast. I'm just going to keep grabbing his beak until this stops.

ok after typing this ducky flew to me and after maybe a minute lunged for my lips and bit me that time and drew blood ouch....

Some birds just don't do well flighted. Mazzie is among them. If we allow her to fly, she becomes pyscho evil demon bird. She will bite anyone who gets in her way. However, clipped she remains mama's angel.

I know *I* would not allow a bird who wants to bite my face to be flighted in this house. Not gonna happen, ever.

Oh No! don't clip his wings.

Birds are ment to fly.

My Trouble started doing this a few months ago so now when we sit together I hang on to a 1/2 inch thick dowl perch which is about 12 in long. I only let him on my shoulder for short periods of time when it's time to get off I touch the dowel to my should it's enough to get him off. If I see that look in his face that tells me he's gonna get me the dowel goes between the 2 of us and he settles down. Never is he hit or really touched with the dowel, and my hand motion is slow, at first he would fly across the room but now that he is use to it he will hop to the side of the chair or just a short distance and come right back and behave.

not all birds are good in the house without clipped wings!! some do need them clipped...right now Ravi's wings are not fully clipped...just a few feathers due to she's not used to being touched that much. but if I don't clip her wings (I let them grow out a bit) and then go to touch her, she freaks and starts crashing into things. not all birds are meant to fly!! my pinous damaged herself by crashing into a wall once and from that day on we had to keep her wings clipped because she couldn't fly straight.

Dogs were once animals that ate people they run across.

We domesticated them, thus they are now pets.

Some could say "Birds arent meant to be caged" and that would make more sense. Although I once felt that way, now that I own bird I realize its the captive ones that have it so good.

Flight in capitivity is about safety and the handling of the bird. My bird is never in its cage and goes practically everywhere with me. Flight isnt an option.

Clipping his wing worked wonderful it has only been a few days,but today he has hung out on his usual spot "me" today and hasn't tried anything but lay his beak on my cheeck and rub it like I'm sorry ma. thats the birdy I missed.

thanks I wouldn't have thought he'd be mean becaue he could fly !!

My Remmi's being a major PUNK too. And he's able to fly right now. But this Sat. is vet day and wing clipping day. So hopefully he'll calm down too. They know they have an advantage over you when they can fly. Brats.

I am SO pro-clip.

Seen too many birds eat sliding glass doors and ceiling fans. Not a pretty sight. Definately not a risk I am willing to take.

Especially, considering these youngens are running in and out. I need a revolving door but the neighborhood association wouldnt approve it.

im all for getting the wings clipped but only if i dont have to take him to have it done as he refuses to speak to me if i take him.aaron the big chicken wont hold him so i can clip them either.

Very easy to get past that. This is how I do it and it works everytime:

I take Baby there and we all talk a bit. Then, the breeder says come on Baby and just takes her real fast from me. I know whats going on, he knows whats going on and SHE knows whats going on but here in the secret.... Im NOT around or in sight when the deal goes down.

After completion, I walk back into her view and come 'safe' her telling her what a mean man... what did that mean ol man do to my baby!? Huh!?

I am again her hero and savior.

Works like a charm. Trust me. Just stay out of sight and your good. You'll be the birds savior rather than the one that 'let' that happen to her.

I promise it works. Even with Baby. Out of sight/out of mind. The act is completely disassociated with you.

In fact, you come out looking even better and gaining more trust because in that birds mind... he was going to DIE! lol

that sounds like a good idea.indie was looking straight at me while it was being done and aaron was over the other side of the room looking at snake enclosures so he wouldnt have seen aaron just me.

You let that man do that mean stuff when you could have stopped it!

Thats what the bird is thinking. So, from now on he steps onto the breeders finger and YOU, as hard as it is, walk away until its over.

And it is hard. I worry they chop her wings up or cut a nail too short and she bleed to death in my absense but I have to put those rediculous fears aside, trust my breeder and walk away.
