Bubs

Post by Jeremy »

These are 3 of the 10 babies i handraised last season. I still haven't managed to sell these ones but i don't mind. They are great birds, they all whistle pretty well but are pretty shy. They are almost 6 months old now. It won't be long until they start talking :D

And another Pastel Blue (Turquoise Blue). This one still doesn't have any Pastel markings yet but i know it is a Pastel Blue as it has pink feet.

Jeremy,
They are darling! I find it hard to believe they're shy with you as their daddy!

Australias tough import/export laws prevent any birds leaving the country, and also prevent birds getting in to the country. I think if someone overseas wants to move to Australia, they are allowed to bring a pet but it has to go through all the necessary quarantine procedures and what not.

By shipping, do you mean put the bird on a plane?

I took some more pics of the little terrors. I think they are finally getting over the biting stage. The Pastel Blue (Cock?) will sit on my hand or shoulder and doesn't even bite. The Fallow Pastel Silver (Hen?) is such a love bug and loves to just sit with me. She also doesn't bite. And the other Pastel Blue (Hen?) is still biting when i pick her up but loves to be with me. She will let me kiss her on the beak and occasionally let me pat her but the bites are still hard.

I handraised 10 of them last season. They are now 6 months old and i must say, it is a lot easier having just 3 rather than 10
I still remember letting them all out and they would all start chewing on my walls  Thank god i got them to stop that habit
They are still quite destructive, i give them heaps of wood which they love to chew. Of course, they are very much like dogs and are so jealous of each other
As soon as they weaned they all went feral  It has been a long process but they are over it now. No more bite marks now and i am now able to let them sit on my hand or finger. I previously had to make them sit on my arm because they could easily get their beaks over my fingers

Man Jeremy,
Good thing you're a world away. I'd surely take one of them off your hands in a heart beat. They are GORGEOUS! I love the greyish one. What a BEAUTY!!! I hope you can find good homes for them soon. If not I'll hop a plane and come get one and smuggle it past customs! Could it be passed off as my seeing eye bird??? 8)

You know, i think you may just be able to pull it off Jen
And would you believe it, the one that looks like Byndi is also the one that bites a fair bit. But she is also a very loving and nosey bird that will occasionally allow me to pat her.

The other two have great tempers, don't bite at all and love to be patted :D

Well dang it Jeremy,
Why do u live so dang far away??? I would take that grey one in a hot second. John would kick me to the curb in a hot second with all the birds. But .... I'd have a new baby and it would be tame. How funny that the one that looks like Byndi has a Byndi 'tude! Tee hee.

Hugs,
