Lutino Cinnamon/blue
Hi guys, hi Deb. If you guys read the previous post you would have seen that Deb mentioned that my Lutino hen might be Lutino Cinnamon/blue and not just Lutino/blue. I would like to know what the visual difference would be between the 2. The hen has left the nest this week and I can now see that her yellow is not as bright as I would expect from a lutino and she also has the same dull pink beak as my cinnamon hen. And also her flight feathers are cream, but a more light bisquit cream than white cream?
Thanks
Thanks

can you post some pics?

Re: Lutino Cinnamon/blue
Hi guys, here is a photo of the chick, no flash, natural light, going through the book and looking at those light flight feathers, could this be a creamino?-that dad is blue and known to carry cinnamon and lutino- and would the green mother then need to be split to something for this chick to be creamino? Or is this just a normal Lutino that will brighten up and lose the light flights after first moult?
Regards
Shaun

Re: Lutino Cinnamon/blue
Hi
I may be wrong, but I thought Cinnamon turned melanin (grey family pigments) to brown. On the other hand, Lutino removes all melanin from the feathers so there is nothing left for Cinnamon to change to brown. Net result, a Lutino bird should mask Cinnamon I would think.
Kind regards
Mike

Re: Lutino Cinnamon/blue
Hi
I have done some reading and I am wrong. Apparently The Cinnamon gene does slightly enhance the trace of melanin remaining in a Lutino phenotype so it can be visible in a Lutino Cinnamon and more so as it gets older.
Kind regards
Mike

Re: Lutino Cinnamon/blue
Hi Mike, thanks for the reply, very interesting thanks for the info, so this Ino might very well be Lutinocinnamon and that's why the lighter/other coloured flight feathers-but will have to wait and see if it darkens up to biscuit/brownish as she ages? And there is no possibility that the light flight feathers is because it is creamino when taking the parents colours into account? The cinnamon seems to be gene working on diluting here as I know the cock carries it, I have a green cinnamon from the previous year from the same pair

Hi Shaun
If it is Creamino then the mother would have to be split for Turquoise (Pastel) if the father is Blue. I would not have expected Cinnamon to give you clear flights but from memory my Creaminos did have clear flights so I reckon that is the best bet.
Kind regards
Mike

Re: Lutino Cinnamon/blue
Hi Mike, thanks, unfortunetly I know nothing of the mothers parentage, bought her at a bird park as a tiny pink chick 8 years or so ago. She is green with blue central tail feathers, that's all I know, and from the previous clucth there were only 2 chicks, the cinnamon and a green and from this clutch just this one ino so I don't know what the mother could be split to

The cinnamon chick you bred last year, do you have a photo of him?
You could have edged or misty not cinnamon, easiest way is to look at the "cinnamon" chick you bred at his primary flight feathers, if faded color, washed out color it can be edged or misty.
Mike, yes Creamino has clear flights but this bird is too yellow for a Creamino, creamino is predominantly white with yellow this bird looks a strong yellow. I would consider Edged-Ino or Misty Ino.

Hi Mike and ringoneck,
I'm attaching pictures from previous posts of both parents and the "cinnamon" from the previous year, don't have any new photos of her at the moment but can tell you that she has light brown/biscuit coloured flights and blue/turquoise central tail feathers
Hope that helps
