African Ringneck

Post by blackhawk »

Can anyone tell me the differences between the Indian and African ring necks?
I've been looking for an IRN without any luck. A breeder has African ring necks and I'm wondering what's the difference???

Thanks,

Dan

I am not an expert on either, however I own both an IRN and ARN. The most notable difference is their beaks, obviously, the IRN has a large orangeish beak and the ARN has a dark cherry colored beak. What I have noticed from personal experience is that my ARN is smaller than my IRN. My IRN is still a baby, only a few months old, and is bigger than my ARN that is over 4 years old. I believe that ARN's onyl come in green while IRN's come in a lot of different colors. I am unsure if the ARN's can talk, but I know that IRN's can talk. In my personal situation, my ARN was a rescue from a very bad, abusive situation and he is a very timid bird. He does is not very friendly, as expected from his abuse...though he is not a biter, just will not perch (and runs frantically if you try). My IRN came from a very reputable breeder in my local area and he is a very loving sweet bird. Also something else I noticed, which could definitely be my particular situation (abused rescue bird vs nurtured bird from breeder) is that my IRN is more destructive and wants to get into everything and my ARN does not do much of anything but eat and sing. Hope this helps a little bit! I tried to attach a photo, but it will not let me :x

Another difference is the sound/pitch of their chirps.
