Fruit salad raider
Echo is not shy about helping herself! She saw me making fruit salad and flew over to help me dispose of the scraps.

Now if only she would fly over to me when food isn't involved

Re: IRN dancing at sun conure!
New development with my ringneck and sun conure ... the conure has given in and has been feeding the ringie! The conure tries to feed me but I want nothing to do with his love chuck, so maybe he thought he might as well give it to someone who wants it. He's only 6 months old.

Re: New pair!
Thank you! He is a beautiful boy, very sleek ... but also very, very wild. Every time I go into the aviary I feel like I'm going to be hit by a frantic bird at any moment

Personality in young birds?
I'm watching my two handraised birds develop, and I'm wondering if the personalities I'm seeing now are going to carry forward into adulthood. Echo is quite aloof and not at all keen on physical contact, but if we take the other birds to the other end of the house and leave her alone. she will fly d...

New pair!
Just showing off my new (and only) pair. It's unlikely that they'll breed at this late stage but next year I'm hoping for assorted bubs :) This is Hector, a blue/cinnamon (he's not really that aqua colour!) http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r274/elfael/Hector.jpg I haven't named the girl yet. She's...

Re: paring suggestions for a female pallid/blue?
What colour is the male you're looking at? Is he visibly blue or blue pallidino? If the male had both the ino and pallid genes he would be blue pallidino. He can't be split for both. If his father was blue/ino instead of blue ino (albino), then you get: 1.0 blue /ino x 0.1 blue pallid % from all 1.0...

Re: Pairing suggestions?
Thanks Glenn. The turquoiseblue/ino looks interesting. I wonder if I could find a sf grey turquoiseblue/ino?
Out of interest, what would you suggest if I was slightly cashed up?

Pairing suggestions?
I have this lovely little girl who will be needing a mate next year: http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r274/elfael/Echo-1.jpg She's a blue pallid, nest sexed female. I'm open to suggestions of what colour boy to get her. We have a turquoise pallid DNA sexed boy, but he's only 8 weeks old and won't ...

Re: Finishing off parent raised chicks?
Thanks Jimmyjack. They're still unhappy about being handled but they're just about weaned now, and hopefully once they're not getting a crop needle poked down their gullet they'll see humans in a better light. Still no biting and they'll perch on a finger provided they're inside their cage and can't...

Re: how often should I be handling my babies
I'm no expert but from my own experiences ... If you want them tame you need to handle them more, even if it's just cuddles on your lap while you watch TV. Don't expect them to sit on your shoulder but they'll enjoy your company, and will probably drop off to sleep. As my IRNs got older I found that...

Re: IRN dancing at sun conure!
My 8 week old ringneck girl is chasing my sun conure around making begging noises ... he's most definitely not interested! She's actually more interested in him than in the other ringnecks. It's fascinating to watch the different species interacting.

Blue pallid?
Hi, Can someone confirm that my little Echo is a blue pallid please? She was supposed to be an albino when I bought her a few weeks ago but I'm very happy with her colour now :) http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r274/elfael/Echo.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r274/elfael/Echowing2.jpg http:...

Re: Finishing off parent raised chicks?
Well, in the absence of advice to the contrary, I'm going with "if the crop's empty, feed it". The oldest one had a full crop this morning (felt like seed/pellets) so I guess they're having a go at the food when I'm not watching them. I'll just play it by ear and see how they go. Has anyon...

Re: Help me to identify the mutation of my IRN
Ah, gotcha. A terminology issue, clearly.
I understand the logic, but ye gods it's confusing - calling a greyish-green coloured bird grey, and calling a grey-coloured bird a greyblue. Makes my head spin.

Finishing off parent raised chicks?
I've just (last night) picked up four baby ringnecks from a breeder. He said he thought they were about a month old but when I went to pick them up I found them to be fully feathered, looking about a week ahead of my 7 week old that I'm already handraising. Being a bit older isn't an issue for me - ...
