Re: Step up biting
Hey, We tried once today (I didn't have the nerve to get bitten again). She was ok, this all happened before I read your post, earlier today (she just didn't want to step up or play in the afternoon), she had my dad about 2 feet away from me. She bit my forearm and then ran up my arm and sat on my s...

Re: Step up biting
Sounds like really good advice thanks, She seem ok with bare arms, she used to climb up them when she would fly over to the couch, she wouldn't bite or anything but she would go directly to my shoulder. I will make sure to direct her to my arms with a nice treat, so she remains comfortable there, I ...

Step up biting
Hey Guys, Mia has been really good lately, she has been stepping up onto my arm, when a treat is resting on it. She has been exploring myself and the computer area (next to her cage). She has been very good and is seeming to be quite comfortable when she is on me and around me, away from her cage. S...

Hey Guys, The order arrived in the mail today, I have set up her foraging toys (which she seems to be enjoying) and watched the Barbara Heinrich DVD on Parrot Training. The DVD was great, had excellent examples and was very detailed, I picked up a lot from it which was very good. Mia is very well ta...

Re: What Now?
Hey,
Thanks for the reply, I thought it was biting/playing.
Does anyone still know why she crouches down and looks at me upside-down? She also looks at me when she is squaking really loudly (she sometimes crouches down for this too). Does anyone know why this is?
Cheers,
Jack

Re: What Now?
Ok, got some really good and a tad bad news, I let Mia out of her cage whilst I was sitting on the computer and she came right up to me as if she was reaching out to me, so I put my arm out and she stepped up (not on command). She sat soundly on my arm/shoulder/head. I though this was really good, h...

Re: What Now?
Thats really cool, a pool-playing bird, haha. Mia is coming along well, she seems to be really aggressive with everyone in the mornings though, maybe it has something to do with breeding season but she screeches much more in morning and will launch to bite you when she is far away (she is usually a ...

Hey,
The posting of photo's seems a of an effort, I probably won't bother with it. Thats really cool, how is he teaching him to play pool? Really awesome things you can train birds to do with a lot of creativity.

Jack

Hey Claire, Sorry about the delay, I went out to bunnings (warehouse) and pet barn in search for items for a play gym for Mia (and got her a toy). I was just thinking of constructing a play area for her to spend outside of her cage (as IRN's are supposedly to have 3-4 hours of of their cage a day). ...

Some birds just never talk, my 18 month old has never said anything. The only thing I have heard from her is a whistle. Hey guys, My 19 month old Lutino IRN, Mia has made a lot of progress lately. Thanks,

Re: 1 Tame(ish) bird and a lot of time!
Thanks Ben,
I understand it requires patience and a lot of persistence, thats why these birds are so misunderstood to be "bad pets" they just need some work. I will work with my bird, so do I just command it to step up and when it does step do I reward her with treats?
Thanks,
- Jack

Yay!
We sold Dusy to a very good home, she has a sister who owns a ringneck and we set her up with the birdy! Sunny (now called Mia) is acting ok with the occasional squaks, she is still doing the territorial call a bit and biting but I think thats ok.
Thanks to everyone!

Thanks, I think we might just stick with the one female at the moment after we sell the territorial one, it seems to be a large effort just to keep them from not breeding or killing each other.

Hey,
Thanks for the reply, we only have a large cage and then a much smaller one, not very appropriate for a permanent cage. I think we may have to sell them or something.
Thanks very much for the response and we will try to deal with it.
