Re: Charging and pecking/biting
Thanks for your feedback! That's kind of what I thought too with being territorial. I'm really trying with her. I can't get her to step up unless she's on the ground or couch... Even with that I have to wrap my hand in a towel so she doesn't bite me. I try to work with her every night doing the targ...

Charging and pecking/biting
Hi, as many of you know I have a two year old irn. I've been trying to bond with her. She really likes my husband, so I use that to my advantage. But lately when I come near her cage she charges at me or my son and pecks/bites at us. I'm not sure as to what brought on the change in her. Our relation...

Re: Naptime / Sleep Schedule
My Lola does that too. My other birds are very active and never nap. But Lola will... she'll sleep on both feet too and sometimes she'll stand on just one. I think its fairly normal from what I've read.

Re: Normal morning behaviour.....?
I usually cover Lola's cage at around 8:30... when she's ready for bed she goes into her cage and chirps really loudly at me (I take it that she's ready for bed) so I tell her goodnight and cover her up. I also uncover her when I get up in the morning. But that time changes cause I work shift work. ...

Re: Target training
Hey Jen, I know there's lots of birds that don't like being petted, but I really don't think that's the case with Lola. She loves it when my hubby is home and when he pets her. She chirps and coos and leans into him when he pets her. I honestly think that he's her chosen one even though I'm her care...

Re: Target training
So far the training is going GREAT!! I actually got to pet my Lola for the first time in forever all by myself!!! Super excited about it too! She gave me a warning when she was done and I backed off. Slowly but surely we are making progress!!

Re: Question abut pellets... PLEASE HELP
I still feed Lola a little bit of seed... But I mostly feed her the pellets and some of the colored ones (not a whole lot though) but mostly she gets lots of fruit and veggies and she seems pretty happy. When I do feed her seeds I pick out the stuff that she really loves and save them for our traini...

Re: Target training
Hey Jen, Lola's caught on very quickly to target training! I use a clicker and vocal reinforcement... Along with sunflower seeds. I also use a wooden spoon. I have yet tried to use my finger though just cause we are still trying to build trust with each other (she's a biter lol) but I can however gi...

Re: Screaming
I totally agree... Now I'm by no means an expert, to be very honest I have only owned my Lola for like months but I have owned other breeds. I've noticed a huge difference in her since I've started talking and letting her out everyday. As for clipping wings I'm all for it. It makes the training proc...

Target training
I've started to target traing (i think that's what it's called) but when I do it Lola bites it aggressively... Do I still reward? Or not? Pls keep in mind that shes still fairly aggressive with me and I've read that this will help with bonding/training but I don't want to reward a bad behavior. Can ...

Switching from free feeding to a schedule
Hi guys, I'm wanting to switch Lola from free feeding onto a set schedule. I'm just wondering how to go about. Also, I'm wondering how much food I should be feeding her so that she doesn't go hungry.

Re: Help
Well, Lola and I have had an amazing last four days! She hasn't bitten me at all! Now don't get me wrong though, she has tried but I tell her no and leave her be for alittle while and come back to try again; and was successful! The only thing though is I can't get her off of her cage, but my husband...

Re: Help
Ya I think I maybe causing it. I am pretty nervous when I go to pet her and I am trying to get better at it. I'm trying not to pull away. I totally think she's feeding off of my body signals and I am just stressing her. I'm gonna try some more with her but also try to give her space. Thanks guys for...

Re: Help
I totally get what all of you are saying. This isn't my first bird. I am just finding it to be confusing because she chirps and whistles when I talk to her and when I am petting her... Then she'll lunge/nip at my fingers or hand but she will continue to chirp and whistle like she was before. I am sl...

Re: Help
Thats very true Missk. I never really thought about it. I'm just finding Lola to be one of the most difficult birds I have ever encountered lol. But than again its a learning process for the both of us as I am pretty sure she hasn't had anyone that wanted to really interact with her. I just found it...

Re: Help
Just when I thought we were making progress... We've taken two steps back will she ever come around? I know it takes time and patience and I've only had her for two weeks. It just makes me so sad when she seems to regress.

I have recently boughten a two year old IRN, I also have a nine month old Caique. We are the fourth owner for Lola (IRN) and I don't think she was treated very nicely. We've only had her for two weeks and been able to make alot of progress, however, she is very cage aggressive. She tries to to bite ...
