Flapping Wings & Grabbing Items....

I have a 1 yr old female IRN who has started doing some strange behavior. She climbs to the highest place on top of her cage, grabs hold tight with her feet & then flaps her wings wildly and screeches! She is able to fly as her wings have grown back since her last clipping. And she does fly to m...

Re: My Female "hates" my male

Thanks for the suggestions! I think I'll give it a couple more weeks and see where we are at then. My husband is trying to work with her and once I get her out of her cage she is not as aggressive towards him.

Re: My Female "hates" my male

My kids are actually afraid of her & she lunges & bites my husband every chance she gets! I am slowly getting her to go to other people but it's taking time. She is better than she was even a few months ago so we are moving in the right direction. My male, Mikey, keeps on going back again an...

My Female "hates" my male

I have a 6 yr old male IRN and a 1 yr old female IRN. From what I've learned she is showing mating behavior towards me any time I come within sight. Any time my male tries to get close to her she attacks him!! I don't care if they actually breed or not I would just be happy if she quit attacking him...

Re: young female puffs out feathers & acts strange

ok, thanks! Great to know that my bird is not the only one...lol! No she doesn't try to bite me when she is doing this, it is definately affection but I just wasn't sure what kind of affection...lol! Sunny also makes little chirp/purring sounds while doing this. I'm hesitant to scold her in any way ...

young female puffs out feathers & acts strange

Hello I am hoping someone can tell me what my young female IRN is doing & why.... First of all she was hatched in Feb 2011 so still very young. Sunny has been with us for about 2 months now. She was going through the "wonderful" bluffing stage when she arrived & is still very diffi...

Re: how to choose a companion for my IRN

We are thinking either another IRN or maybe a quaker parrot. He was with a african grey when he was a baby before we got him. We had a cockatiel with him most recently, both were females.

how to choose a companion for my IRN

I have a 4-5 yr old male ringneck. Recently we lost his companion & he is not taking it well. He has started to chew on his tail feathers & is just generally unhappy. We would like to get a new companion for him but I am not sure if a male or female IRN would be better? Also would a younger ...

Re: Introducing a 2nd bird

Forgot to ask..... what is a good cage size for 2 birds if I do put them together? Or is it better to keep them in separate cages but next to each other?

Re: Introducing a 2nd bird

Do alexandrines stay about the same size as an IRN? How similar are they to IRNs?

Re: Introducing a 2nd bird

Yes we are considering another ringneck, cockatiel, conure or lovebird. Our concern is that a bird smaller than him may not be a good idea incase he harms it. Just wondering if anyone has done this before & had any suggestions.

Introducing a 2nd bird

Hello All! I am fairly new to this whole Indian Ringneck "parenting". We have a male IRN who is about 3 yrs old. I got him from a friend who only had him for a few months. I nursed him back to health for her after they sold his companion. He seemed very depressed once he was alone. Then ab...
