Progress Update + Moulting at 5 Months??

Hey Folks...been a while though I would show face and give an update on pepes progress..Been working a lot recently and not had a chance to get online much.

Been a hard slog but am finally beginning to make progress with him.

Got a clicker trainer and have been using this with seemingly great success. That Chet Womach guys stop biting course.

--- target training him (to make him go where I want) Works a treat BTW he will follow the white perch whereever i want him to go.
--- using that power pause technique to get close to him without getting bitten.

Have heard mixed reports about his courses, but seems to be working for me so far.

After using the bottle on my arm for a while to build my confidence back up he now steps up every time onto my arm with no bites ever..Am working back towards getting him to step back onto my hand gradually so that we are both comfortable. But much happier with the progress being made...and he seems much happier too :))

Quick question though....he is about 5 months now (maybe a little over) is it normal for them to molt around this age??, he is loosing a few feathers on his chest, and head...

He gets a good diet, seed only about once a week, good mix of fruit and veg and leafy greens along with Harrisons Organic rotated with Egg Plant food. and the odd small amount of chicken or pasta/rice.

He is never in contact with other animals/birds, and his cage is cleaned every 3 days.

Was considering taking him to the vets for a checkup shortly anyway but is this moulting normal???

Also his beak is not as shiny as some other birds pics ive seen on here..

Thanks ;)

hi mate,

my IRN started to loose feathers at about 7 mnths old, and lost them for ages. not just a week or two, but about 6 weeks, feathers all over the house. his feathers have since stopped falling out. and my blokes beak is not as perfect as some of the pics i see also. i feed her a good diet of fruit and veg and seeds. but for some reason her beak seems a bit dull also.

My ringneck is about 5 1/2 months and he is also getting new feathers coming in around his head. Although this is my first irn, I think it must be normal. My sister's is going through the same thing although hers is 2 months older.
