this afternoon i heard the sound of the chicks in the nest with the mother when i looked the cock bird was gone. my concern is will my hen bird be able to raise these chicks with no cock bird in the cage with her or do i need to pull the babies out of the avery and hand raise them we are first time ring neck owners and breeders but willing to try anyhting sugested that will work.thanks for your time

Are you saying the Daddy disappeared? I am going to try to get someone on this for you. Breeding is not my expertise but MANY here know an awful lot about it.

Yes the cock bird has gone they had some how taken there seed dish out of the side of the cage it was on the floor of the cage leaving a hole for him to excape from.

How many hatchlings are there? She should be able to cope but if she can’t she will let you know she may even stop feeding or even throw them out of the nest box them but these are in very rare cases. Iv never seen it but have been told that it can happen im not trying to scare you. I’ve read somewhere I can’t remember where but people use baby food organic only ones containing fruit and veg. I don’t know if that will work. But I’m sure mikaela will be able to find someone that can help. I’ll do some research for u and see what I can come up with.

She should be fine on her own. Supply fresh veggies all day if you can, and in a good variety. Seeds are good too, breeders should get seeds in addition to or instead of pellets when feeding. From experience it seemed that the babies had an easier time digesting the seeds and fresh veggies from the mother.

It's more likely that she'll stop feeding just one if it's too much for her, but for three or four chicks she should be okay. She'll be exhausted after it's all over.

If you want to pull the babies, you can. You can also wait until they're three to four weeks so no night feedings. And it'll be a welcome reprieve for your girl.

Thanks for the replys this am i have been out there the hen is still in the box with them and i can here the chicks chirping as soon as my hubby is here he will get in to the cage and let us no how many chicks r there.

looked like there is 2 chicks hatched and she is sitting on 2 eggs still we put in fresh vegies and fruit left her for a bit went back out and by the looks of it she has eaten some of the fruit.
