Embarrassed to whistle?

Petey bird is about 7 months old now, he makes cute chatter sounds when u give him a scratch or a very loud squawk when he wants attention. I have heard him wolf whistle and a come here whistle (like calling the dog), also i swear he has copied me laughing (he sounds just like me my friends say) but he will in no way make whistling noises when yr in the same room as him, its almost like he's embarrassed to whistle in front of u.

is this a normal thing? I'm constantly whistling tunes and talk to him all the time, i'm hoping he wont stay silent forever and let me hear his lovely voice closely.

My boy chats up a storm when I am not in the same room as him I'm lucky though as I don't have any solid doors downstairs in my house so we can always chat or whistle no matter where we are...
