Oh I have always been addicted to this site but just recently got enough balls to get on and talk. Very shy ya know. Well my B&G was a rescue to. I had went to Ohio to pick up a breeding pair of ringnecks from a man that kept them in a garage with about 30 dogs. And then he took us in his house and there was Rocky. His feathers were in bad shape and the poor thing was in a very small cage. Me and hubby just looked at each other with tears in our eyes. The guy was asking 800 for him and at the time I didn't have it so we went home with heavy hearts and kept thinking about him so three month later we went back and paid the guy his money and brought him home. He's only been stick trained but we'er working on the step on hand thing. Wow that hurts but it's love bites. And other then that he's really a cool bird. He tells all the other birds to shut up He's had enough and just the other day he told my husband he loves him. So he coming along. Sorry to make this so long but get me started on my fids ya can't shut me up.

What a sad story...but had a happy ending! I didn't want to buy a baby macaw, that I knew...there are way too many out there without homes. So I had to be patient. I so can't wait to have Aggie home and in my life. I hope she can fit in well and be happy here. It's been a while since I've shared my life with a large bird again.

Donna:
A rescue bird, that's just too neat. I've been bitten and bloodied and am afraid of large birds I don't know. But I recently got a training video by the Womach brothers and it shows a blue and gold that they train from scratch. It made me feel like maybe I could handle a large bird if I could get up the courage. But I would have to handle my Hubby first and he really bites. I got Nila my IRN because of my fear of larger bird beaks. And I am happy with him. Whenever I go to the bird stores I look but never attempt to touch the macaws. So kudos to you and Danni and all the other good people out there with hearts of gold and courage.

you guys are awesome! I hope to be able to rescue someday when I own my own place. I have a big heart towards rescuing animals, however I just don't have the space to do it right now. Must be the "people helper" and social worker in me! lol

Thanks Bird crazy and Gweenie I have those same training tapes but all it takes is gaining the birds trust and reassuring him that he is at his or her forever home and will be loved no matter what. The Macaws are easy to read their body language but those cockatoo's (bless their hearts) will push every botton you got.LOL Donna

Oh...believe me it takes courage but knowing that YOU can help a bird in need over shadows any fear. I don't really fear them at all...it's more a healthy dose of respect for that can opener of a beak...
