Corky, the cockatiel, is 22 years old. He has picked his feathers off his abdomen but has feathers on his wings, head and tail. Today we were trying to force him onto a large dowel stick, trying to get him out of his cage so that the parrot would come out, too. We had given them some play time, and Morris just loves to go into that smaller cage, and I wanted to spray him with warm water. Anyway, we mistakenly caused Corky's skin to break under his wings, no feathers there, and he is probably sore. I fear a possible infection from the dowel rod. Not alot of bleeding, just enough to make me feel Soooo bad for hurting him. Is there anything I can do, perhaps spray on, to help him heal, or just let nature take care of it? Thank you, Donna

I have a tiel and are attending a tiel-forum. If the wound isn't to bad they often recommend some gel from a aloe-vera plant. Just break of a little piece and put it gentle on. If the wound seems too cause big problems I would take him to the vet. Hope he gets better soon.

Thank you, Pamela, for that great suggestion! I do have an aloe plant but have never used it, even for burns. If we can get ahold of this little biter again, I will attempt to use the aloe gel. He doesn't seem too bad today, but was calling out before being uncovered this morning, which is unusual for him. Where is the cockatiel forum? Thank you so much. Donna

The tiel-forum is in swedish but I'm sure that if you ask they will answere you. Try to post questions in the "Fågelsn hälsa-kategory" if it's about the birds health. For ordinary questions - "Min nymfparakit - generellt". they are very helpful there so give it a go.
