I'm convinced they do. Primarily because in the wild they have to find their food and i don't think they can rely on sight alone. I know with all the galahs and rosellas and lorikeets around my place, if i have put new seed in the feeders, they flock to it within 1/2 an hour, but if i forget to refill it, they don't even stop in to check it out, they just fly on by.

I've heard birds care more about sight and smell than taste.....so theoretically, it's more important that their food smells and looks good (like lots of colors/fruity smell)than the taste of the food.

Thanks for your responses. My reason for asking is this - last night after putting some cream on my son's back I went to pat smokey. The cream is really smelly even when you wash your hands. He would not let my hands anywhere near him - very different to when he is in his bluffing moods - alot more aggressive. He growled, eyes pinned and he even hissed at me yet he would kiss me if i put my hands down. I wonder if you really hated to smell as much as I do and didn't want me near him when I smelt that way?

I thought that maybe Tiki was smelling the popcorn, because he goes nuts when my husband cooks it, but then I think that he has just learned to assoicate the sound of popcorn popping to knowing what is cooking! So I am not for sure. All I know if Tiki LOVES popcorn!!!!

I have done my own experiment. I patted Smokey before putting the smelly cream on my son's back (he as a skin condition that needs this cream morning and night). Smokey made his little cooing noises and was fine, I tried to pat Smokey after putting the cream on my son and he attacks me. I am convinced he doesn't like the smell of my hands
