Saliva

Tonight when I put my finger out for Smokey to step up he put his beak on me to push my finger away, however I noticed saliva (or drool) from his beak on my finger. When I put my finger back to him his beak and tongue was dry. He hadn't eaten anything sloppy so i knew it wasn't food. It was clear. What can this be? There is nothing wrong with him, he is playing happily, eating etc. Has anyone else experienced this and does it happen alot? Just before this he was just sitting in a dreamy state, not sleeping though.

Birds do have a small amount of 'drool' so dont worry about it. It's when they sneeze bird snot all over you that's gross.

Thanks for that. Our budgie sneezes at you but I hadn't seen drool from the beak before.

My chook drools. Especially when he is ready for a nap. Its disgusting!!! I was really worried about it too for a while until I realised no harm was done.

Thanks I won't worry now. All day today I have been trying to look at his beak to see if he's drooling & worrying of course (I am scared to put my finger near him cos I think he's starting to bluff - bites really hard reducing me to tears). He was sort of napping when it happened so maybe that was it.
yuck
