Introducing a baby bird

Post by crazycracker »

I have an Indian ringneck who iv had for 8 years. She is a female, and was full grown when I found her. She can get very grumpy with new people and is territorial with everyone except me. I have been considering getting a young indian ringneck for a while now. However i'm concerned that my bird may attack it. I would appreciate any advice about getting a young indian ringneck and introducing it to my bird. Her cage is a large flight cage, would it be safe to house another bird with her, and if there is aggression how would i handle it?

I think it would be advisable to cage them separately and slowly introduce them in neutral territory. If your current bird is overly bonded to you and territorial about her cage, she may treat a new bird the way she treats a stranger. Having a new bird put straight into her cage may cause her to go into full defense mode.

I think ellieelectrons has written a thread about how she introduced her birds. If you do a search it should come up.
