Our Sirius is in the livingroom with us, once the boys go to bed at 9pm Iam covering his cage so that he gets the rest he needs.... is this good enough or will he still not rest fully as my hubby and I are still in the romm watching tv and winding down until about 12 ????

Re: cage cover??
We do the same, although we usually cover our birds a bit earlier and they are in the neighbouring room to our tv. I think you'll be able to tell if they are getting enough rest from their behaviour. Our avian vet seems to think that even though we cover them and _usually_ leave the lights out in the dining room where they sleep, they are probably half awake most of the time, although he didn't think it was a big problem.

Sanjay likes being covered at 8pm, he is in the lounge, and we hear him raiding his pantry, so to speak, for a while before he settled down, sometimes if there's a loud noise he "complains", hee!

If the birds are not getting enough rest they will let you know by being grumpy in the mornings.
