Discourage sitting on food bowl

Hello there!
As I mentioned in another section I recently became a parrot daddy (3 days ago to be exact), the bird came with a rusty cage (to be hones given only for the transportation to our flat) that I replaced yesterday with a proper new cage.
Since the replacement the little scallywag decided that his favourite spot in the new cage is sitting on the food bowl, I am worried that he might dump on his food when I am not around, possibly leading to infections and diseases...I paid attention on how to position perches to avoid that problem specifically...
Do you have any idea on how to discourage such behaviour considering he is not yet tame?
