Hi all,
I was just wondering, my Indian Ringneck is Blue, (I dont know if hes a boy or girl yet I just call him a him) his parents were Albino and Blue and his other sibling was Albino, I was wanting to ask what I could pair with him to produce some interesting colours? If I got him a Violet blue mate would the chicks be Violets and Blues, and if I got him a Cobalt mate would the chicks be Blues and Cobalts? I am new too breeding and mutations and it will be awhile before I even start to breed because he has only just turned 1 and I don't even have a hen. Any additional info you think I should know please do let me know!

Do you know which of his parents were which colour? ie cock was albino, hen was blue? Or vice versa? If the father was albino, it will mean you DO have a boy, and he will be split to ino, like this;

1.0 ino /blue
x 0.1 blue
% from all 1.0 = cocks
50.0% 1.0 blue /ino (your bird here)
50.0% 1.0 green /blue ino
% from all 0.1 = hens
50.0% 0.1 blue ino = albino
50.0% 0.1 ino /blue = lutino split blue

Meanwhile, if the MOTHER was the albino, then the father must have been a blue split to albino, for an albino offspring to be produced, like so;

1.0 blue /ino
x 0.1 ino /blue
% from all 1.0 = cocks
25.0% 1.0 blue /ino(possibly your bird?)
25.0% 1.0 green /blue ino
25.0% 1.0 blue ino = albino
25.0% 1.0 ino /blue = lutino split blue
% from all 0.1 = hens
25.0% 0.1 blue ino = albino
25.0% 0.1 ino /blue = lutino split blue
25.0% 0.1 blue(possibly your bird?)
25.0% 0.1 green /blue


Of course this is assuming that neither of the parent birds were split to some other unseen mutation, which would mix things up again

So you see, there a few options as to what mutation your bird is....if you can find out exactly what the parents are, it may help narrow down what your bird is first, then you will have a better idea of what colours you can get from pairing him/her with certain coloured birds

To enter an albino ringneck into the genetic calculator you select visual blue and visual ino together. When you select ino split for blue what you are saying is the bird is Lutino split for blue. so the results would then be as follows:

1.0 blue ino
x 0.1 blue
% from all 1.0
100.0% 1.0 blue /ino
% from all 0.1
100.0% 0.1 blue ino

OR

1.0 blue
x 0.1 blue ino
% from all 1.0
100.0% 1.0 blue /ino
% from all 0.1
100.0% 0.1 blue

OR( if the male is split lutino)

1.0 blue /ino
x 0.1 blue ino
% from all 1.0
50.0% 1.0 blue /ino
50.0% 1.0 blue ino
% from all 0.1
50.0% 0.1 blue ino
50.0% 0.1 blue

I think if I could find a violet bird at a reasonable price I would go for that option but cobalt would be a nice bet too

Thanks both o you, I am thinking the cock was blue and the hen albino... Not to sure, I have my eye on a violet HR Indian ringneck for $300.

That will be a nice combo

I have a blue male, and have just got a violet hen to pair with him, although she is still young, so it will be a couple of years yet for me also
