Hi all,
Wondering if someone could help identify my IRN chick colours.
The male is supposed to be a blue/pallid, hen a normal lutino. They had 3 chicks, 2 with red eyes so I thought were pallidino boys while the 3rd is yet to reveal itself (probable green).
I have not seen a pallid or pallidino, only photos, and colours seem to vary greatly. Not sure if photo capture or difference in bird itself.

Notice how one is considerably 'darker' or 'greener' looking than the other? Would that be a pallid hen and not a pallidino as I first thought? Or just the colour variation in a pallidino?

It is possible that you have a pallid ino or dark phase lacewing and a yellow head cinnamon or light phase lacewing. When the chicks are in full feather it's easier to identify the mutation.

I will take a few more photos in the coming days when the feathers start to come out more.
I am pretty excited as this is the first time I have had anything other than green, grey, blue and lutino.

Babies are now aprox 3 weeks old and getting very cheeky.

There is one more twist in this .... That is.... The ino parents can mask grey green and if that is true in your case you could have the yellow baby coloring into a grey green pallid ino.
The joy of color breeding.

And then if the hen is split blue??????

Their eyes were red.....

The lutino hen parents are meant to be straight lutino with no splits according to the breeder. The DNA certificate I got with the male says blue/pallid, if that helps any.

Yep but if just one of her parents where split blue there is still a 50% chance she is split blue.

Just something to think about.

Chicks are revealing more and more everyday.

if it's true then you have one pallidino green male (the one which is nearly yellow), one pallid green female and one green /blue bird with unknown sex. if this bird is a male he is split for ino too.

One remark: a pallid paired to a lutino will cause the pallid offspring to get lighter and lighter then the father from genration to generation. So it's best to pair a pallid back to a pallid. And that why your pallidino looks nearly like a lutino. if he gets fully feathered up then he should have only some light green areas on the flights and a light green body.

Thanks Madas. I read about the change in colour when paired a pallid with a lutino.
I originally thought I had 2 pallidinos as both chicks hatched with 'pink' eyes and I read pallid hens have 'plum' coloured eyes so I assumed the chicks were both boys. Then as the pins were coming through it looked like one was a dark chick but as the feathers have burst open, I have seen was a pallid hen.
Pin colouring can be so deceiving to what the actual feather colour is going to be.
I am a bit partial to the hens' colour as I have not seen one before only in photos, very pretty.

Thought I had better show updated pics of the bubs....they sure have grown.







The male is sold when fully weaned but I am tossing up whether the hen is a keeper or not....sigh.

Here is the pallid hen and has the sweetest nature....needless to say she is a keeper....sigh...
