Hi just wanted to know how the greygreen ringneck came about, am I correct in saying that it could have been a cross with a Grey cock and a Green hen. If so it will work out as such according to the genetic calculator
1.0 grey(sf) blue
x 0.1 green
% from all 1.0
50.0% 1.0 grey(sf) green /blue
50.0% 1.0 green /blue
% from all 0.1
50.0% 0.1 grey(sf) green /blue
50.0% 0.1 green /blue
Now whats interesting here and what many breeders would confirm is that most greygreen ringnecks are split for blue
So if we have to take two greygreen ringnecks hopefully being split for blue and mate them, and obviously I wouldn't mate brother to sister so look for a cock and a hen from different bloodlines, the babies produced will be as follows if both cock and hen are split for blue
1.0 grey(sf) green /blue
x 0.1 grey(sf) green /blue
% from all 1.0
6.25% 1.0 grey(df) green
12.5% 1.0 grey(sf) green
6.25% 1.0 green
12.5% 1.0 grey(df) green /blue
25.0% 1.0 grey(sf) green /blue
12.5% 1.0 green /blue
6.25% 1.0 grey(df) blue
12.5% 1.0 grey(sf) blue
6.25% 1.0 blue
% from all 0.1
6.25% 0.1 grey(df) green
12.5% 0.1 grey(sf) green
6.25% 0.1 green
12.5% 0.1 grey(df) green /blue
25.0% 0.1 grey(sf) green /blue
12.5% 0.1 green /blue
6.25% 0.1 grey(df) blue
12.5% 0.1 grey(sf) blue
6.25% 0.1 blue
This is very interesting cos here we see that both birds are visually greygreen but are able to produce 4 different colour babies in both genders being green, greygreen, grey and blue. So a novice who would put these two birds together and not know anything about genetics and the hidden factors would expect to get all greygreen babies and be surprised to get 4 different colour babies
Obviously just putting two greygreens together is not guaranteed to produce this combination if you don't know the genetic history of the birds as they both have to be split for blue
But it just shows that you don't have to buy expensive birds to expand and get other colours if you are just starting off.
The downside to this is that you might have to go through several seasons to get all the colours
But this was just out of interest, please comment and correct me if I'm wrong

Hi there you are not wrong but have a look at the % based on visually only.
1.0 grey(sf) green /blue
x 0.1 grey(sf) green /blue
% from all 1.0
56.25% 1.0 grey(df) green
18.75% 1.0 green
18.75% 1.0 grey(df) blue
6.25% 1.0 blue
% from all 0.1
56.25% 0.1 grey(df) green
18.75% 0.1 green
18.75% 0.1 grey(df) blue
6.25% 0.1 blue
There is a very low chance you will get a blue bird!!

was going on with you. You have it done much more better last time. When a single factor greygreen bird is paired up to a single factor greygreen bird you will get green, greygreen and grey(df)green birds. But not only the df ones as you posted.
So here are the correct results:
1.0 grey(sf) green /blue x 0.1 grey(sf) green /blue
% from all 1.0
6.25% 1.0 grey(df) green
12.5% 1.0 grey(sf) green

12.5% 1.0 grey(df) green /blue
25.0% 1.0 grey(sf) green /blue
12.5% 1.0 green /blue
6.25% 1.0 grey(df) blue
12.5% 1.0 grey(sf) blue
6.25% 1.0 blue
% from all 0.1
6.25% 0.1 grey(df) green
12.5% 0.1 grey(sf) green
6.25% 0.1 green
12.5% 0.1 grey(df) green /blue
25.0% 0.1 grey(sf) green /blue
12.5% 0.1 green /blue
6.25% 0.1 grey(df) blue
12.5% 0.1 grey(sf) blue
6.25% 0.1 blue
greetings.

Re: curious about Greygreen ringnecks
Hi Glenn
Very good point as there is only a 6.25% chance to get a blue bird, my question now is whether it is possible to get a blue bird from this pair if you keep them together for several breeding seasons
Hi Madas
I think what Glenn tried to do is add the percentages of all the visual colours and leave out the splits to show the chance of getiing the four different visual colours being green, greygreen, grey and blue.
He maybe didn't look at seperating the df and sf of the greygreen and added it together
Thanks Lushen

Re: curious about Greygreen ringnecks
Madas thats a fault in gen calc (but you already know that)
And thats my bad for not looking.
I was just showing the % of getting a blue bird or a green one.
But the % is worked from 100 so it could be possible that you get four blue birds in nest one,
but then not get another for 96 birds if you know what i mean.
