hi guys, i know you cannot give your birds salted pop corn, but was wondering apart from plain pop corn, can they eat sweet popcorn?

Concentrated salts and sugars are not good for your bird.

I gave Krishna a couple of pieces of caramel corn and it was one of the first things he would take from my hand - I would give it to him rarely though. Can't see why plain popcorn would be a problem.

You can absolutely give your bird popcorn as long as it is unsalted, sugar free, and butter free

popcorn on the cob.. fresh from the stalk is probably best

plus it makes a great toy

As others have said as long as it is plain and unsalted it is fine. I guess its just another form of corn. 8)

I actually bought some at petsmart in the bird section...

but the one featured here was plucked directly from a corn field...

Take the husk off,.. let it dry for a week or two.. I"m not sure if that's necessary but I did it anyway. then just nuke it for a minute or two (cover it up or it'll get everywhere)

and one thing to be aware of.. not all corn will pop. But it seems if you get corn with rock hard kernels.. that works pretty well. I don't know the names of the different types of corn but it's definitely not corn you can eat raw ... it's too hard..

I know the one he's talking about. The mini cobs. I didn't know you could nuke them. Learn something new everyday on this forum :D

I gave Gracie a her first piece of popcorn yesterday. She LOVED it! Now I'm starting to use it as her treat for heading back to her cage after her afternoon out.
I just popped a few in a brown paper bag and am storing it in my food saver far. So far they are still good and crunchy. Love love love Food Saver! :D
