Pet and breeder?

Is it true that a pet bird cannot be a breeder also? Would a handfed bird that has been raised by humans know how to breed if placed with another bird of the opposite sex? I just remember hearing from a breeder that birds used for breeder should be wild in nature. Please advise. Thanks.

One of my tame IRNs has a father who was tame.... so it must be possible.

I'm planning to try breeding mine at some point and they are both tame.
