when to get a friend

I have had my IRN for a month now and it is about 3.5months old. I want to train it and then was wanting to get a friend for him maybe. Does having a playmate make them noisier? I would probably want to get another once i knew the gender of the one i have and then get another the same, so that will make mine about 18months??Is that too late to introduce another in the cage?
