What does the term "fid" mean?

What does the term "fid" mean?

I have seen this more than once and really feel kinda silly asking, but when somone refers to their "fids or fid," what does "fid" stand for.

"Fid" or "fids" is another way of saying feathered kids, ie: our birdies. :)
