Colour question from Tasmania Australia.

Post by mcleodmi »

Hello,

I have a gray hen bird and am considering getting a blue cock bird to breed. Would they produce both gray and blue off spring?

Also if I was to pair my gray hen with a lutino cock would I get grey-green
and green?

I am from Tasmania, Australia is there anyone who may be able to supply me with a hand reared blue cock bird? I am not in a hurry.

Thanks

Offspring Colours

Hi
A Blue cock and grey hen would give you both sexes in blue and grey.

Now the Grey hen with a lutino cock will give you
Green Ino (Lutino) split blue hen
Grey Ino Green split blue hen
Green split Blue ino cock
Grey green split blue ino cock.
All will be visible colours besides the grey green ino(it will be yellow but actually a grey green hen( I actually have one).
Cheers

Hi,
I agree with you in the case the visual grey hen is SF grey. Assuming non splits, if she is a DF grey hen you will get:
1/ Paired to a blue male: only visual grey males and females.
2/ Paired to a lutino male (SL ino): grey-green males split blue and ino (visual grey-green); and grey-ino females split blue (visual lutinos).

By the sounds of it I will need to check with the breeder if she is SF or DF.

Colour of chicks Sky blue cock/grey hen?

Post by mcleodmi »

I think the grey hen is sf as she came from blue parents?

What would I get from a Sky blue cock with my grey hen?
