moulting

can anyone tell me when will my irn start moulting and what actually happens

he is around 2-2 1/2 and has started getting tiny pink feathers round his neck. i live in england if that helps

At 2.5, you bird has probably moulted several times, no?

weve only had him 7 months and are very new to parrot ownership. he has lost 2 tail feathers and thats all.

IRN's only moult once a year and thats usually in spring/summer

so from that it should be anytime as its spring here in the uk, should i expect him to loose quite a few feathers??

Yes, but not all at once. He will lose them in turn, big and small, and look quite scraggly during the process as a result but he won't be bald or anything like that.

This is what my birds look like when they are going through a moult. Very scruffy and not very elegant at all.

Poor babies, must be so uncomfortable.
