a little help plz with new IRN

Post by dannywoods1 »

hi its us again :lol: just a couple of quick questions would like a little help with please.

As you may have previously read we got our 6-8 months old blue IRN .. bluey yesterday... i was going to mix him up a boul of fruit and veg to see if we can temp him and find out what he likes but was wondering what the best combanation would be to try ??

He has a dried sweetcorn stick in a minute and hes nibbleing on that.

Also i was thinking along the lines of wanting something i can hold in my hand to try and gettin him to take the food from me and get use to me. Ive read they love nuts but was wondering what be the best nut or would something else be better?? he is ok with me standing next to the cage now as b4 he was panaking abit.

We know it will take time and dont want to rush him bu we thought it was better to try these things soon rather then later and any advice and help would be much appricated.

thank you in advance jem and danny

I feed my birds a range of different foods like, apple & grapes, (without seeds), oranges, sweet potato, pumpkin, corn, peas, peaches, plums, pears, mango, passion fruit, broccoli, capsicum, cauliflower, carrots, sprouted seed, lentils, (cooked), kiwi fruit, pawpaw, nashi fruit. Sometimes they also get the frozen packets of mixed vegies and occasionally I give them very dry grain bread as a treat, you know when it goes rock hard and crunchy?. I am sure there are heaps of other foods that others give their birds but these are just the ones of the top of my head. :)

If you see which foods your ringie has a favourite for, then you could try offfering that from the hand. Most of mine love apple but I did have one last year who went nuts over capsicum lol Maybe she liked the pretty colours! :lol: :lol:

i give my birds fruit/veg every day. Some people give every second or third day. If it is a got day, only leave fruit/veg for a few hours or it will spoil and could make bluey sick. If it is a cooler day it could stay there longer. :) My birds also have dishes for each food and water.

I think as they become more part of the family they will eat practicly anything you have, mine are a bit partial to the wall paper, doors, coving even a bit of fresh flesh now and again, :)

Stuff my bird likes: actually, she likes everything that I eat.

fresh corn (on the cob, sliced into wheels). That's her favorite.
grapes
apple (second favorite)
mango
dried fruit (any)
soybean (edamame): frozen shelled edamame, steamed for 2 minutes. This gives her some protein.
spinach leaves; jalapeno peppers;
cilantro (used in mexican cooking)
carrots

Nuts: almonds (shelled raw almonds with no salt) her fave, and best for nutrition.
Peanuts & sunflower seeds are too fatty - just an occasional treat.
Other protein source: mealworms (live) yeah, that's right live worms. What do you think birds eat in the wild?
pasta (cooked) like chinese rice noodles
cereal (cheerios or other stuff with no sugar on top) or granola;

yogurt (she licks it up with her tongue); soy cheese or a bit of real cheese now & then.
