A lil heavier?

Post by Lauren »

Yesterday I had a bird on each hand. I've only really had one at a time on the hands. I was shocked to find, Yoda was actually heavier than Jibby! Only a few weeks ago, Yoda was light as a feather! I have noticed over the past few weeks, hes eating alot more than Jibby. Jibs will take one piece of food and go somewhere quiet and eat. Yoda just sticks around where the food is, being the bossy boots he is, he 'guards' any food I put out like a hawk!

I don't think there is a problem with Jibby, he eats the same as he always has, he eats in 'dainty portions' and just nibbles, he also flys around alot which is great exercise. Yoda eats like its his last meal and scoffs everything down, then hangs out for more!
I think Yodas dominance over Jibby around food is getting the better of him, he seems very possessive of food! I try feeding them in their cages. But as soon as Yoda's out he starts looking for food (which is quite normal as birds do this!), but the problem is when hes got some he gets nasty if Jibbys around. If I stand over Yoda and watch them eat, Yoda wont boss him because he knows he gets his food taken away when I'm there!

Am I doing something wrong?

They eat Brocolli, Cauliflower, Apple, Berries (Strawberry/Blueberry/Blackberry), Corn (on a cob too), Nuts, Carrot, Celery, Yoda likes Banana, Pumpkin with the seed (only if I mush it and put it in something else) Beans, Peas, Chicken and Tuna (rarely), Rice, Dried Paw paw they LOVE but only rarely they get, Egg and shell (once a week), and of course seed/passwells pellets as a staple. (Peanut butter is my treat), they also 'steal' our toast and chippies. I make muffins out of honey, oats, nuts, cinnamon, and pumpkin which they adore too.

I'm thinking of a vet check up hopefully during December or January. I want theyre weights. Also, Yodas wings have grown back and need to be clipped again, hes flying really well now. Do you think they eat more for the energy when flying? :?

Lately Tsume (who was always lighter) is eating like a pig while Hane (who was nicknamed Buta, meaning pig) just eats normally. I'm not sure what sparked the change, but neither of them are flighted. Though, looking back I think Tsume gained more interest in food when he had a taste of something he adored- cooked beans. :?

Do you feed them out of one bowl? We have to give ours individual bowls to keep them from guarding food from the other. They still grumble about it but feeding time is normally peaceful.

You could also cut down on the amount they're eating. I'm doing that now with Hane and Tsume, since they're not growing anymore and don't need all the extra goodness. Their serving sizes are more normal now and their weight seems to be normalizing as well (with exercise). ^_^

Well, I was shocked yesterday to find, both of them, side by side, eating peacefully together in Jibs cage. Just when I think somethings wrong they go and do odd one off things to confuse me.

But today was back to normal with Yoda hogging the food. I've tried giving them a plate each, but Yodas just not happy with that. They will both have something each, but once Yoda sees Jibby eating, he wants it! Even though they've both got exactly the same.

If I stand by the cage and watch over them, Yoda will grumble and pin and squeak and flick food angrily and take his anger out on his tigger and pooh bear but won't go after Jibby. Hes so funny when he doesnt get what he wants.

Poor Jibs rarely stands up for himself. He just sits there and takes it! I've once seen him take food off Yoda before but most of the time he ends up sooking to me. He doesnt miss out though. He always gets his share back.. from me.

Maybe Yodas just a big greedy piggie. I still want to find out his weight pretty soon. But in the meantime. I'm cutting down the portion sizes. Thanx.

Tsume does that too, steals Hane's food. But for the most part, Tsume is actually scared of Hane and will back off when Hane wants his food (we didn't call him Buta for nothing! lol). But when Tsume is being really bad (previously Hane hogged all the food) we'll feed them on separate stands- meaning, one on the playstand and one on a towel-covered chair with his own dish. Some days they are just plain grumpy with one another. I don't think I could handle more than one on my own- you and others here deserve credit for that! But then again, I've always been a one dog sort of person.
