New to Breeding - Questions: Please help

Post by Tweets »

Hello there.

I am thinking of breeding with Sky (female)..
She is 1 year and about 6/7 months old. Is this too young?
I dont have a male yet - Should I buy a young male and hand rear him as well or should I get a male that is her age?

I have been reading a few posts on here that say that it is never guaranteed that they will mate.. and that the female might even kill the male if she doesn't approve of him.. I'm very scared of that happening..

What is your opinion on this matter?

hi i think it is always best to wait till the female is atleast 2 years old before even thinking of using her for breeding, this is just to minimize the chance of amongs other problems egg binding. my appinion on the male is that i find it always better to have a male who is fully mature (3 yrs).

hope this helps
