posting photos
Hi All
I have just found out what the go is for being able to post photos and links. You have to have posted 10 posts and be a member for at least 5 days. These measures have been put in place because pornographic images were being posted to the forum as well as links to inappropriate sites. Although this has created difficulties for new members, these measures seemed to have worked with very little spam appearing on the board now.
I am hoping to find the time to create a tutorial for how to post images to this forum to help those who are stuck.
I will post the instructions to this thread.
Ellie.

Re: posting photos
Hi All
Below is a tutorial for adding pictures to posts in this forum. There are lots of ways to do this; so if you already know another way to do this, then keep doing what works for you.
The first thing to understand is that this forum is not set up to host your photos, so don't use the in-built file uploader that you see on the posting screen.
In this tutorial I will use Picasa Web Albums by Google. You can sign up for a free account here:
http://picasaweb.google.com/
Step 1. Upload your photos to a Picasa Web Album. Note, it needs to be a publicly viewable album not a private album.
Step 2. Inside Picasa Web Albums, navigate to the photo that you want to put in your message.
Step 3. Expand the Link to this photo section
Step 4. Check the box beside Image only (no link)
Step 5. Choose what size you want your image to be
Step 6. Click in the embed image text box and make sure the text is selected
Step 7. Copy the text - on a PC you do this by pressing Ctrl+C
Step 8. Go to your message and press the Img button at the top of your message.
This will make the following appear in your message
Step 9. Insert your cursor between the two img tags and paste the text you copied - on a PC you do this by pressing Ctrl + V
Step 10. When you have finished your post, submit as normal.
Happy picture adding!

Re: posting photos
Thanks so much for these instructions, as a newbie, I still have 7 post's to go before I can post photos....I guess that also means updating my profile too, as I've noticed it tells me I'm not allowed to have one yet!

Re: posting photos
Thanks Miss K. Well done & what a lovely bird you have there!
As I said, you can use any photo sharing site, the only reason I chose to use Picasa was that it lets you resize the images reasonably easily. Really huge images can get a bit annoying on a forum - however, even if someone posts a really huge image (one that makes the page scroll sideways), it's not that big a deal!

Hi All
Just thought I'd add a link to this thread about using Photobucket for posting images.

Re: posting photos
I just updated the memory on the forum. I believe you should not be able to upload pix. Just be sure they are under 100 kb:)

Hi AlphaWolf,
Once you have uploaded your photo into Photobucket, look at your library. You should see small images with a black bar (and white text) under them. Below the black bar are some labels and beside them bars with greyed out text in them.
I place my curser over the greyed out text next to the label "IMG". On the image, upper right, a little white flower(?) icon appears. Then I click that text next to the label "IMG" and it hilights in blue. Then I drag that text onto my posting here on the forum, and drop it. A really long url appears, but when I check it in preview, the photo is there.
If I instead click on the text next to IMG thumb I can get a little picture like this one of my dogs last Christmas.
