Flight harness

Soooo. I have recently discovered the joys of having fully flighted fids. My youngest, Sunni, is used to going everywhere with us, however. This poses a HUGE concern for me since she is only a year old and not clicker trained to return to me. She is discovering that she quite enjoys flying. My quest...

Re: opions on clipping a birds wings?

Afternoon. I have had both clipped and flighted Ringnecks, and I am discovering the joys of having fully flighted birds. It is all a personal preference with each owner. I may never clip again :)

Re: Bringing My IRN Home in Three Weeks!

They can make quite loud "music". :) I have found that when they start to get loud, if I talk to them, they will start talking more quietly. Although once in a while, Sunni will scream simply for the purpose of hearing her own voice, and I carry her down the hall to the bedroom and put her...

Re: Parrot losing feathers! Help!

My suggestion would be to wash your little one in Dawn dish soap. That is what conservationists use when they find wild birds in oil spills. That is what I would do anyway. Someone else might have a better suggestion.
Question though...why did your mom rub him down in oil?

Re: weird behaviour

I'm not entirely sure what that is either, but I had a young male who did this before he would start his "dance". We said "oh, look, Skyelar is getting ready to impress something" lol. We were pretty sure this was a mating type dance.

Re: Hello Everyone!

Not only that, if you ever have a problem with sugar ants, they don't like cinnamon. I sprinkle cinnamon around the base of the outdoor aviary because sugar ants are a problem here.
Oh, and hello and welcome to the forum :)

Ok, so I cannot figure out how to post pictures. I want to add a picture to the bottom of my posts and add an avatar, but cannot figure it out. Could someone help me, please?
Thank you so much!

Re: Just adopted a neglected and abused IR need advice

Thank you for your reply as well. Since she is eating and drinking, she hasn't totally given up on life. Thankfully she found someone who isn't willing to just let her give up either.
Good luck with Grace. :)

Re: Just adopted a neglected and abused IR need advice

I see you are getting quite a few "views" on this one, but no replies yet. I'm no expert on Ringnecks, but it sounds like you are taking steps in the right direction to care for her.
I know this doesn't help, but didn't want you to think you were being ignored.

Re: My IRN's Love Whistling

I have found that Ringnecks are fantastic imitators. In fact, we have quite a few wild birds who come to our yard (I think they are curious about the three poor souls "stuck" in that huge aviary in the front yard) and if you listen closely, you can hear that there are beginning to be simil...

Re: A little handling advice

I would suggest to be aware that you may never get to cuddle with your fid the way you want to. Your fid will let you know what you get to do, and he/she will ALWAYS be in control of the pace at which life happens. When you come to that realization, you will be able to fully appreciate and enjoy you...

Welcome to the forum, AK. I am relatively new to the forum myself but have "lurked" on the outskirts for years now, getting ideas and information. This is a wonderful site from what I've experienced.

Re: Food IRN

I have noticed that my three watch me very intently when I am eating, so if I want them to try something new, I will eat it slowly in front of them, then nonchalantly put a piece of the food in their food bowl or on their treat stick. It's a guaranteed way for me to get them to at least pick it up :...

Re: My IRN's Love Whistling

My three fids like anything musical. Huge jazz fans :). Also, I play the piano and they will quiet right down when I play the piano. Oscar seems to be a huge Beethoven fan.

Re: When should I expect....

I have three ringnecks, two Greens that are between two and three years old. They do not talk yet, but we rescued them two months ago and I don't think they had very much human interaction before we got them. Then there is our little Lutino, who we've had since she was three weeks old and she is jus...

Mom to three fids

Afternoon, all. My name is Dana and I currently have three Indian Ringnecks, two green (Oscar and Luna) and a Lutino (Sunni Dai). We got Sunni when she was three weeks old and I hand fed her until she weaned herself. We obtained the greens about two months ago in a rescue. They are approximately two...
