How old were they when they started?
Someone told my wife last week that females are more aggressive and more likely to bite than males.

Tell us your 'bluffing' story...
I'm interested to hear your tales regarding bluffing.
Examples...
When did it start?
How long did it last?
Is your bird male or female?
Did you manage to avoid it?
Anything else of interest...

Re: WHEN is this 'bluffing' thing supposed to start.
More to the point, why do you want bluffing to start? Who said I WANT the bluffing to start? I didn't. I just want to know when it starts - if it starts. My relationship with Merlin is pretty magic at the moment and I just wanted to know if I may still be in for a nasty time down the line. Shane, m...

I just read the bluffing article but it doesn't say when the bluffing starts.

WHEN is this 'bluffing' thing supposed to start.
Other than the occassional over-enthusiastic nibble, Merlin has never even looked like biting me. He's about 3 1/2 months old now and the only 'dangerous' thing that he does is try to climb up my face. (ouch)
Do you think we've avoided the bluffing, or is it yet to come?

Merlin flew away.
3 times.
And came back each time.
We've decided his wings needed clipping, so I've got a near new Aviator harness if anyone's interested.

Merlin's first proper flight - nearly his last.
We went camping this weekend and took Merlin and Bingo, his 'tiel brother. Merlin's been doing a lot of flapping recently in preparation for his maiden flight and in anticipation, we've been getting him used to his new 'Aviator' harness. He takes to it like a duck to water. Bingo's not so 'ducky'. A...

I have no idea about the parents, Julie. But your Spike is the spitting image of Merlin. I did the sums and the in last 2 photos, he must be 5 weeks old? And he looks much greener in the last 2 photos. That last thread you directed me too has me confused further. The 'runt' in the day 24 photos (3.5...

How old is Merlin?
When we brought Merlin home just over 2 weeks ago, the breeder told us he was 5 weeks old. That makes him just over 7 weeks old now. On the same day we got Merlin, we bought a 'tiel (Bingo) from a pet shop, which was only a week older than Merlin, but fully feathered and weaned. Yesterday, we went t...

confusion re; good food/bad food
I just read a really good thread about good food/bad food, but couldn't ask a question there as the thread is locked. There are a lot of fruits which are good for IRNs, but their seeds are toxic. Kiwi fruit is mentioned as a good food, but no mention of the seeds. I've been feeding Merlin kiwis for ...

The 2 birds at the top of this page (or are they the same bird?) have a large white cornea?? My baby Merlin seems to have all black eyes. Will he develop this whiteness, or will his eyes stay black?

That's great news Bec. We're relieved that we won't have to 'maybe' change his/her name later.
Shane, We're just west of Peregian Beach. I assumed from your other post that you already had your baby? Looking forward to seeing some pics when you get him/her.

Interaction with babies?
Just picked up Merlin, our first IRN last Saturday. See my 'Introduction' post for photos. We're new to this hand feeding caper and I'm getting conflicting advice about whether to interact with him or not. The pet shop that I bought the food/supplies from told me to leave it alone in a dark place. (...

Re: Help with my new baby ringneck
I have the same question as the original poster - what to do at weaning time. The link Melika posted doesn't really provide the answer as it refers mainly to the syringe/spoon feeding stage. I'm finally confident about the spoon feeding stage, (I find the bent spoon less messy than a syringe) it's t...

I had a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo in my 20's and loved her to bits. but she was NOISY!
On the day we picked up Merlin, our IRN, I saw a magnificent, gentle blue and red Macaw. Wouldn't it be cool to own of those giants?

Oh, I forgot to tell you, we named him 'Merlin', making a huge assumption that he's a he. (50/50?) The following photos were taken 3 days ago. Hi from Queensland's Sunny Coast
We just picked up our first baby IRN last Saturday. He's now 6 weeks old and we're hand feeding the gorgeous, ugly little fella. I can't believe how much he's grown in only 6 days. It's feathers are really starting to come out now and he's gonna be a nice teal colour, we think. I had a Sulphur Crest...
